It was an opportunity for Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club’s younger swimmers to show off their prowess when they competed in the Scotia Mini Meet at the Leisuredrome Bishopbriggs.

An excited team of 9 swimmers took part in a total of 38 individual events setting new personal best times in 18 events. Six swimmers excelled on the day bringing home 18 medals; 13 Gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals between them.

Lance McMahon swimming in the age 9 category was unbeatable taking first place in all 5 of his individual events securing 5 gold medals and setting 3 personal best times, two of which were fantastic, 4.37 s improvement in the 100m Individual Medley and a strong 3.85 s in the 50 Butterfly an amazing performance. Iona McGarry also swimming in the age 9 category performed very well securing in her individual events 2 gold medals and PBs in 3 of her 5 events, she narrowly missed out on a bronze medal taking 4th place in the 50m Butterfly. Fergus McEwan swimming in the age 11 category had a great day, in his individual events he secured 1 silver, 3 bronze medals and 2 PBs. Tara Chalmers swimming in the age 10 category added to the haul in her individual events with another silver medal and 2 PBs.

The team finished off the day in style excelling in the relay. They stormed home to first place with a massive lead over their nearest rivals giving Lance and Iona another gold medal to add to their haul, Fergus and Tara a first gold medal to add to their silver & bronze medals and a much prized gold medal to Isabella and Abey.

Whilst everyone is to be commended for the number of personal best times set special mention goes to a few swimmers who took it to another level on the day. Abey Hennessey swimming in the age 11 category secured personal best times in all 4 of her events and just missed out on two bronze medals having to settle for two 4th places instead.
