Swimmers from Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club travelled to the Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex, Bellshill at the weekend to take part in the Rutherglen graded meet. A strong team of 8 swimmers aged 11-14 took part.

The team did the club proud bringing back 16 medals, 4 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze. New personal best times were set in 25 of the 31 events entered. Five swimmers secured a personal best time in all of their events with the majority of swimmers securing at least 2 PBs.

Swimmers Fergus McEwan, Owen Lyell, Alice Cumming and Louisa Brown had a fantastic weekend securing medals in all of their events. Swimming in the 11 year old age group Fergus secured 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 bronze medal, Owen secured 2 silver and 1 bronze medal and Alice secured 3 Silver and 1 bronze medal. Louisa swimming in the 14 year old age group secured 2 Gold and 2 silver medals.

Lilly Boultby, Della Smith and Michael Payne also performing really well. Narrowly missing out on medals all 3 swimmers secured PBs in all of their races. Lilly secured 4 PBs with a massive PB of 18.37s in her 200m Freestyle. Della secured 3 PBs with impressive improvements in the 100m and 50m breaststroke of 14.23s and 12.93s. Michael secured strong PBs in all of his 5 events.

Zoe McEwan was pipped at the post in 2 events taking 4th place in both but recorded an excellent PB in her 200m freestyle of just short of 11s.

A great performance all round.
