Swimmers from Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club travelled to Linwood sports centre to compete at the Ren 96 graded meet held over 2 days. A strong team of 15 swimmers aged 8-13 took part. The team brought back 10 medals, 4 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze. New personal best times were set in 44 of the 56 events entered. Six swimmers secured a personal best time in all of their events with the majority of swimmers securing at least 1 pb.
Swimmers Louisa Brown and William Peace had a fantastic weekend securing 4 medals each. Louisa swimming in the 14 year old age group secured Gold medals and pbs in the 50m and 100m breast- stroke and the 400m freestyle and a silver medal and pb in the 100m freestyle. William swimming in the 13 year old age group secured a Gold medal and pb in the 200m freestyle with a very strong pb of 6.98s, a silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze medals and pbs in the 100m breast- stroke and 200m Individual Medley where he secured a 5.26s pb in the former and a huge pb of 11.39 seconds in the latter.
Siblings Zoe & Fergus McEwan took the medal haul to 10 with a bronze medal and pb each. Fergus swimming in the 10 year old age group secured his bronze in the 100m backstroke with Zoe swimming in the 12 year old age group securing her bronze in the 50m breast- stroke.
Swimmers securing pbs in all of their races were Lilly Boultby, Thomas Forsyth, Owen Lyell, Fergus McEwan, Zoe McEwan and Louisa Brown.
Notable pbs were secured by Zoe McEwan with a whopping pb of 11.76s in the 50m Butterfly and 6.89s in the 100m backstroke , Michael Payne, 9.37s in the 200m backstroke, Ethan parson 5.94s in the 100m Individual Medley and Kara McFadyen, 5.63s in the 50m backstroke.
A great performance all round.
