Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club swimmers did themselves proud at the Scottish Schools Argyll & Bute Trials that took place on 6 November hosted at Helensburgh pool. Primary and Secondary schools right across the region attended bringing their best swimmers. The Helensburgh club swimmers brought home a total of 22 medals, 5 Gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze.
Fifty nine personal best times were achieved with 11 swimmers achieving personal bests in all of the events entered.
Gold medals were won by 3 swimmers. Michael Payne swimming in the age 15-16 category secured a gold medal and a personal best time in both the 100m and 200m backstroke. Monty Jamieson swimming in the age 17 category secured a gold medal in the 200m freestyle. Alex Johnson swimming in the age 18 category secured a gold medal and a personal best time in both the 100m and 200m Butterfly.
Silver medals were won by 4 swimmers. Owen Lyell swimming in the age 12 and under age category secured 4 silver medals and 3 personal best time in the 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Ethan Parsons swimming in the age 13 -14 category secured a silver medal and a personal best time in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Thomas Forsyth swimming in the age 15 -16 category secured a silver medal and a personal best time in the 200m backstroke. Tamas Mihaly swimming in the age 15 -16 category secured a silver medal and a personal best time in the 200m Freestyle and a bronze medal and personal best time in the 100m backstroke.
Bronze medals were won by 7 swimmers. Fergus McEwan swimming in the age 12 and under category secured bronze medals in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. Lance McMahon swimming in the age 12 and under category secured a bronze medal and a pb in the 50m Backstroke. Lilly Boultby, Zoe McEwan and Darragh Gettings all swimming in the age 13-14 category all secured a bronze medal each, Lilly in the 100m backstroke, Zoe in the 200m Breaststroke and Darragh in the 100m Backstroke. Rachel Stewart and Olivia Drew both swimming in the age 15-16 category also secured a bronze medal each, Rachel in the 100m breaststroke and Olivia in the 200m Breaststroke.
Many swimmers were competing at the younger end of wide age bands. Swimmers who didn’t win a medal but performed exceptionally well on the day securing personal best times in all or all but 1 of their events were Iona McGarry Isabella Brown, Olivia Kershaw -Yates, Abey Hennessey, Beth McKenzie, Della Smith, Jodie Morrison, Noah Watson and Edward Peace.
All swimmers will find out soon if they have qualified for the final national event held early in 2020.
