Swimmers from Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club travelled to Linwood sports centre to compete at the Ren 96 Annual Open meet held over 2 days. A strong team of 5 swimmers aged 10-13 took part. New personal best times were set in more than half of the events with all swimmers securing a personal best time in 1 or more event. A club record from 2013 was also broken.

The youngest swimmer Alice Cumming, age 10 was swimming in the 10-11 year old age group. She swam in 6 events securing notable PBs in 2 events, a very respectable 2.42s in the 200m Individual Medlay and a whopping 5.74s in the 100m Butterfly securing 7th place overall in that race. She also swam in the 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m freestyle events and 100m breast- stroke.

Roisin Kavanagh age 12 swam in the 12-13 age group. She swam in 3 events securing pbs in 2 events and making the final in the 100m backstroke. Roisin knocked a respectable 0.30s off in the backstroke heat and then really pushed herself in the final to knock a further the 2.27s off of her time and pick up a silver medal, particularly notable given that she was swimming against other competitors up to 12 months older than her. Her swim also broke a club record set in April 2013 by Kate Storey at 1.11.94, Roisin’s shaved off 1.06s setting a new record at 1.10.88. She also secured 8th place in the 100m Freestyle and a 1.54s pb and 14th place in the 100m butterfly.

Louisa Brown age 13 swam in the 12-13 age group in 4 events securing a strong pb of 0.49s in the 100m freestyle and returning strong performances in the 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

The boys secured PBs in all of their races with Finlay Martin, age 13 swimming in the 12-13 age group, securing a massive 8.60s pb in the 200m freestyle and William Peace 13 also swimming in the 12-13 year old age group securing pbs in both of his races, a very strong 3.98s pb in the 50m freestyle and a respectable 0.68s pb in the 200m freestyle.
